Martin Crockett, NYC Soccer Coach

Martin has been coaching soccer since 2010. In that time, players he’s worked with have signed with development academies at Premier League and Championship clubs in England. That’s not a guarantee he makes to every player — but it tells you what’s possible when the right development environment meets the right kid.

What he’s actually done

Before moving to New York, Martin worked inside the English football pyramid — coaching youth players at a travel club in the seventh tier of the English league system. That’s grassroots football in the truest sense: limited budgets, big ambitions, and no shortcuts.

In New York, he organized games and managed teams for over 100 girls every weekend as division head of a recreational league. The logistics of that job taught him something that pure technical coaching doesn’t: how to run an environment where players actually want to show up.

He also holds a Regional Class referee license, which gives him a perspective most coaches don’t have. He’s seen the game from the other side of the whistle, and it shows in how he teaches players to read situations before they develop.

Credentials, for those who want them

Outside the pitch

Martin trains in Muay Thai, boxing, and Brazilian jiu-jitsu, and has completed over 200 distance races. That’s not a detail he includes to seem impressive — it’s relevant because the discipline and physical commitment it takes to show up for those sports is the same thing he asks of his players.
